One of my classes at the VFS Game Design program was Motion Capture (MoCap). We learned the use and effectiveness of motion capture technology in video games, and visited a motion capture studio to suit up in MoCap suits, and recorded ourselves performing fight moves. We then took the recorded moves and used tools such as Eva Realtime and MotionBuilder to manipulate the captured data and created our own animated scenes. The follow scene demonstrates the skills learned in motion capture.
![]() Sally meeting her demise |
Death of Sally is a short Machinima cut scene made with MoCap technology, MotionBuilder's story tool. The scene was made for Machinima class, based off our stories from Creative Writing.

The scene is a major fight scene with the two heroines, one of them named Sally going up against Iziko, a highly skilled warrior. Sally dies in the hands of Iziko, who stabs her from behind. After Sally's death, Iziko walks over to attempt to finish the other heroine, when Iziko's boss orders her to abort, since the Police had arrived on the scene. The main heroine walks over and sees Sally one more time, when the Police suddenly appear and accuse her of murdering Sally, leading to the next scene.
The scene features many different camera angles and charater animations, capturing the emotions of the scene. The scene was then added with some storyboard shots and dialogue. For the music, I wanted the scene to have a classical epic feel, so I used Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's original score from the film Batman Begins. |
